I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this, but Queensland is suffering some serious flooding. From talking with some of my international friends, it seems news of this hasn't spread very far (or in comparison to other disasters over the last few years), despite the fact that the flooded area being as wide as it is. It's devastating, and this flooding started just before Christmas - so there were whole towns under water while most of the world were celebrating Christmas and New Years.

Currently Brisbane, and the surrounding areas as far as the Sunshine Coast are being evacuated. The disaster zone is about 75% of the state, which is about the size of Germany and France combined, and under water.
I wrote a journal here about it: http://nuenagi.deviantart.com/journal/37611672/
Also, 'cause I know there's a few of us - those that have a deviantART account, could you please help by spreading the word and/or faving this news: http://news.deviantart.com/article/140590/ .

My own family and I are fine - we live on a pennisula, which is quite safe from this type of flooding. We are, however, surrounded by water, and I think pretty much every road from the Pennisular is cut off by water, most of the surrounding suburbs are flooded. My grandmother lives on a mountain, so she's out of harms way. One of my cousins had to evacuate despite her two-storey house, but is currently with her boyfriend's parents, whose home is safe for now. They may need to move again, and will probably find themselves here.

Even though it's been lucky that most people have escaped without loosing their lives (there are now ten known deaths, but 78 people still missing), there are many people who have lost everything under a sea of water, and with continual rain, it's broken the banks of the Brisbane River and flooding has started in the middle of the city. If you could keep these people in your thoughts, it would be much appreciated.

Yeah, I've heard all about the flooding. It is also all over Yahoo news. My sis and another friend over in Australia are barely out of the danger area for now. If the rain keeps up over there, things will continue to get worse.

I've also heard about the news. I saw it last night on the television. I hope the flood will stop soon.

My cousin's house was flooded, but she can't go back to her home yet, so we don't know how bad it was.
Pretty much, the worse of the flood is over now - the water levels are going down. I think the Stadium is still underwater. At least in Queensland the floods going down, not sure about New South Wales, which has started flooding in the north. And Victoria has started to flood as well. The clean-up is going to take months at least in just Brisbane alone.
To add to it, it's the start of cyclone season, so North Queensland will probably be hit with them soon, so Rockhampton and the other places effected in N. Qld. might flood again.
