Wow... all of this is incredible, and I applaud your knowledge, zhenwu, as always.
I was curious if anyone knew of a spell to heighten spiritual awareness? Not to the point of visually seeing them, which I suspect involves some level of natural talent, but at least to know when you are in the presence of a spirit being and to be able to discern any important personality traits of it, such as playfulness, curiosity, or others.
On a side note, sorry I haven't been posting a lot... I've hit a snag in my own research at about the same time I needed to get more work hours.

Personally i just get tingles when they are around, mostly in my arms and shoulders. O-o it feels kinda cold, almost numb but i can still feel everything. when they are nice or calm then the tingle is light and enjoyable. if they are neutral then it's pretty much the same thing. however if it's something that is mean or hurtful then i tingle much more intensely and painfully.
also if a lot of negative energy is in an area i get the same negative feeling, only its more encompassing and radiant.

Ooh, neat. I usually can only tell when it's there. It feels like I'm walking in Silent Hill. Sure hope that doesn't mean it's a bad thing, cause I get those from some spirit rings I got from eBay all the time.

I can relate to this. A friend of mine who once dabbled in witchcraft used black magic to summon a demon at school to get back at those who wronged him. I had football practice and he had tutoring or something, but he and I had to deal with that spirit. I told him to use the Fudo Myo Oh invocation "Naumaku samanda basara dankan" to expel the demon, and the instant he did the demon was set ablaze. then I told him to use "Namaku samanda bodanan Indaraya Sowaka" to expel it back to Hell, and so a lightning bolt of God struck it, and it disappeared forever. He told me he learned the spell from a dark magic book, I told him that thing was too dangerous to keep around, so I had him seal it. To ensure he wouldn't remember its location, he sealed his memories of the book.

Found this chant when I was re-reading ghost hunt and it started to bug me. In the manga it was part of a curse disguised as a form of kokkuri-san called onikiri sama or something like that. Basically the old method of putting venomous creatures together in a container so they eat each other producing the supposedly deadliest venom. Only with spirits devouring each other. The chant was "on orikiritei meiritei shimarei sowaka" and I was wondering if it was real, if so what it was, whats the translation and what is it actually used for. I really hope to find an answer, its driving me nuts.

It's a death curse that was transmitted from China through Korea and eventually got absorbed into onmyoudou 陰陽道. I don't remember exactly how it all went in Ghost Hunt, but I think the spirit Kodoku and the chant with the Jufu 呪符 (talisman) disguised as the orikiri-sama kokkuri-san variation were technically separate methods of cursing that were linked. Though in the story they are definitely connected for the end result of killing that teacher. But to get to the point, it might be a real mantra. I say "might" because I do not have a really good source on it. I have seen the mantra floating around on some websites (e.g. http://www1.plala.or.jp/eiji/sub6.htm and http://happy.ap.teacup.com/gogohk/169.html?b=10) and some bbs. The way it is printed in the Japanese Ghost Hunt is 「をん をりきりてい めいりてい めいわやしまれい そわか」 (On orikiritei meiritei meiwayashimarei sowaka), but a variation to the mantra would have it On orikiritei meiritei meiwayashi yarei sowaka. Even though there is a "ya" instead of a "ma" they might be representing the same sound. These are Sanskrit (or possibly pseudo-Sanskrit) mantra, and are approximated in different ways in Japanese. Even if I knew Sanskrit it would be hard to understand the meaning unless I could see the Siddham script of Sanskrit it would have been written in, since the Japanese pronunciation makes it hard to understand. From what I've seen it seems associated with methods of cursing. Wish I could help more, though I don't know about randomly posting curses on the net.

Ok, thanks anyway. I really dont have much use for additional curses anyway, just thought it might have some other use in real life.

A mantra I know is "Om anichi marishiei sowaka". If memory serves me correctly it is the invocation of Marishiten, the Warrior Goddess that chases away devils. Ninja tend to use this in their meditations when the use the Daikongorin-in mudra or the Touken sword mudra of Fudou the Immovable One.

Sorry if it's been awhile. (Busy preparing for college entrance exams)
Anyway I've come across this spell while reading Genji Monogatari. It sounds familiar to me but I can't pinpoint what but I'm not sure if this is a real spell though.
Goshin (Guardian Spell)
- hold hands together w/ the middle fingers touching and extended, first fingers separated and bent, tips of thumbs and little fingers bunched together, and the 3rd fingers in line with the middle finger so as invisible from in front. After this, touch the worshipper's forehead, left and right shoulder, heart and throat.
At each contact the phrase "On Basara Gonji Harajuta Sowaka" or meaning "I invoke thee, thou diamond-fiery very majestic star" is uttered. The deity of this spell was said to be Vairocana, the favorite Buddha of the mystic sect.
