What is a Tombogiri and Nippongo anyway?

Two famous japanese spears. I believe the name tombogiri means dragonfly cutter

Correct. Very pretty blades. The smiths who made those were truly craftsmen.

They are two of the "Three Spears of Japan". The Tombogiri was the favorite weapon of Honda Heihachiro Tadakatsu, one of Ieyasu's top generals. If your looking for powers I think they maybe near indestructible. They have seen many many battles, and still to this day they are absolutely beautiful. No evidence of any polishing to correct any damage. Blades, even the best made, after seeing that many battles will have dings and scratches that have to be polished out. This is just speculation, however. That they are so well preserved could just be a testament to their users skill. *shrugs* Maybe their power is to improve a physical ability or a mental awareness that helps the warrior to fight, so that maybe why they were used so well. I hope to get to hold one of these in my lifetime.

on a more serious not, perhaps the spears' users were them selves highly skilled any way and so they didn't damage their weapons. O-o someone would have to check sharpness for this theory though. i suspect the blades may have been dulled a bit from stabbing enemies.

Now the sharpness. Yes I would love to test this for myself. I have heard that the Tombogiri was tested on paper for sharpness and is razor, but of course this is second hand knowledge. If you get to do a test (lucky) be sure to tell me!!!!! *smile*

Didnt tombogiri supposedly get its name from a dragonfly landing on the blade and being cut in two?

The real story was more along the lines of the smith cutting a dragonfly by swinging it.
