I was watching Destination Truth. They were in a haunted forest in Romania and one of the crew was knocked back by what he describes as a wind. They found he had several bleeding scratches on his arm, but his cloths were not torn (long sleeves and coat). My first thought is that sounds really similar to the kamaitachi stories I've heard. Maybe a distant relative? What are your thoughts?

Maybe it's a vântoase. A vântoase is a creature in Romanian folklore similar to the nymphs of Greek mythology. According to popular belief, it is capable of creating dust storms and powerful winds.

Hmm... aren't kamaitachi famous for causing several cuts in the victim's body which don't bleed?

You're right! They are known in creating wounds that do not bleed so the one in Romania is definitely not a kamaitachi.

But, Kamaitatchi are usually in threes, and it's the third that tends the wounds so they don't bleed. Perhaps if there were only 2, it can be a similar group of youkai. Also, this didn't happen in Japan, which possibly means it could be a distant relative of the Kamaitachi anyway, and not necessarily follow the standard description of a kamaitachi.
Which I believe was what you were suggesting to begin with, Tanuki?
